  • Complete all course requirements and receive a part 48 5000-23.
  • Pass a pre-hire drug screening.
  • Pass the background check.
  • Pass the pre-employment screening.

Requirements:

  • 18 years old

  • MSHA Training (if you do not have MSHA training, it will be provided for you for free)

  • Valid State Issued ID or Drivers’ License

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

General Laborer

Perform tasks involving physical labor while working underground at an underground coal mine.  Build roof supports out of wooden timbers.  May rock dust, shovel, or clean up debris.  Assist other craft workers as needed.
  • Comprehend instructions and mine specific maps and plans

  • Take direction from Supervisor, Mine Manager, and Mine Superintendent

  • Lift and carry multiple 4x6’s without mechanical support

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces

  • Must be able to work well with others

  • Must be able to repetitively lift 50-100lbs throughout the work day

  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA. 

  • Required to attend all company training

Roof Bolter

Perform tasks involving physical labor while working underground at an underground coal mine.  Install different forms of roof support.  
  • Comprehend instructions and mine specific maps and plans

  • Take direction from Supervisor, Mine Manager, and Mine Superintendent

  • Roof support including bolts, timbers, fencing, cable bolts.

  • Carry multiple 4x6’s for one extended distance without mechanical support

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces

  • Must be able to work well with others

  • Must be able to read and understand safety diagrams and signage

  • Must be able to safely use small hand tools

  • Must be able to repetitively lift 50-100lbs throughout the work day

  • Must be able to check SCSR everyday for defects

  • Must be able to don and doff SCSR

  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA. 

  • Required to attend all company training

Utility Worker

Perform tasks involving physical labor while working underground at an underground coal mine.  Build roof supports, hang ventilating curtains, rock dust, shovel, operate a scoop, and clean up debris.  Assist other craft workers as needed. 

  • Take direction from Faceboss, Mine Manager, and Mine Superintendant

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces

  • Must be able to stand for two hours periods

  • Must be able to work well with others

  • Must be able to sit for up to one hour at a time

  • Must be able to repetitively lift 25-50lbs throughout the work day

  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.

Wash Plant Operator

Perform tasks involving maintenance of wash plant equipment at an underground mine facility. May operate equipment, weld, record maintenance data, run the wash plant, and load trains with coal. Ensure equipment is maintained and repaired in compliance with all State & Federal regulations. All wash plant workers are required to be cross-trained to be functional in all tasks because of shift size. 

Expectations:

  • Must have high safety standards for self and others
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be willing to work any assigned shift, overtime, weekends and holidays

Qualification, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal mining regulations pertaining to underground mining including electrical permissibility
  • Must have demonstrated welding and fabrication skills
  • Must have demonstrated operating, repairing, and troubleshooting skills on wash plan environment
  • Must be able to troubleshoot from blueprints and service manuals
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Other Duties May Be Assigned As Needed):

  • Take direction from Shift Supervisor, Wash Plant Manager, & VP of Operations
  • Required to attend all company training
  • Comprehend instructions and mine specific maps and plans
  • Must be able to read and understand safety diagrams and signage
  • Must have the ability to stand for 4 to 9 hours on uneven rocky surfaces
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for 4 hours at a time outside in all weather conditions including snow and ice
  • Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of working wash plant equipment
  • Must have the ability to climb on and off equipment and ladders
  • Must be able to safely use small hand tools and welding equipment
  • Must be able to repetitively lift 1-75lbs throughout the work day without mechanical assistance
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and any other personal protective equipment as required by the Company and/or MSHA
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
  • Must be able to communicate and coordinate with coworkers and supervisors
